Picnic perfect cakes

We all enjoy a picnic here, especially when the weather is warm!

We love nothing more than spreading out a blanket on the ground and dining al fresco.

Here are our recommendations for the top cakes and bakes you could include in your picnic basket this year:

• Sponge cake. Any type of sponge cake is great for a picnic, you can cut it up into slices beforehand and place it neatly in a tupperware box. Slices of sponge are easy to eat without needing a plate too. We suggest lemon drizzle, chocolate sponge or a carrot cake.

• Cupcakes or fairy cakes. Always a winner. Everyone gets their own individual cake, so no arguing.

• A traybake. Another good one for a picnic, as it can be easily packed and unpacked. Try brownies, blondies, millionaire’s shortbread and even a rocky road.

• Cheesecake jars. Just pop layers of biscuit crumb, creamy cheesecake filling, fruit and sweet purée into old jam jars. They won’t spill thanks to the lids and add a little bit of luxury to your picnic.
