All about hot cross buns

Hot cross buns are an Easter tradition.

As you will probably know, they’re a sweet, spiced bun made with raisins or currants with a sugary glaze and a dough white cross on top.

Recipe

The most common recipe has yeast, milk, flour, butter, eggs, sugar, raisins, and a combination of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and allspice, but some older recipes used saffron and mace.

They are traditionally eaten on Good Friday and mark the end of Lent.

Different parts of the hot cross bun have certain meanings.

The cross symbolises the crucifixion of Jesus and the spices used in the dough represent Jesus’ embalming.

Enjoy anytime

They taste wonderful and are a great treat to be enjoyed for breakfast and throughout the day.
