Two acts of Christmas kindness

Two acts of Christmas kindness

The festive season is often portrayed as a time of joy, warmth and celebration – but for many, the lead-up can feel overwhelming.

Between shopping lists, social events, financial pressures and the emotional weight of the season, it’s easy to feel stressed and/or lonely.

Please embrace ‘Power of Hello’ with us

We’re members of Southampton Mental Health Network, which is coordinate a citywide Southampton Mental Health Friendly Day next summer.

Together we’re asking people to come together for a ‘Power of Hello’ Campaign launching this December to count down to the day.

Coordinator from Southampton Mental Health Network, Chloe Naegeli explains: “Our Power of Hello Campaign will focus on celebrating good mental health, encouraging social connectedness and promoting the simple yet powerful act of saying ‘hello’ to each other and how important that is.

“It will culminate on July 8, 2026, with social gatherings in all corners of the city, at a grassroots level, with an emphasis on meeting and greeting each other.”

The Power of Hello Campaign promotes a simple message encouraging residents and those that work in Southampton to connect with others, reduce isolation and strengthen community ties.

Charities, businesses, educational establishments and individuals are invited to join the countdown to Southampton Mental Health Friendly Day 2026 by supporting the Power of Hello Campaign.

Giving your time

While the festive season can be hectic, taking time to help others can actually lift your own spirits too.

According to the Mental Health Foundation volunteering and small acts of kindness can foster a sense of belonging, reduce loneliness and help you connect with your community.

Whether it’s donating to a food bank, volunteering for the charity we support Communicare, or simply inviting a friend over for a cup of tea, these acts create what some call a ‘kindness bank’ – a store of positive memories that can boost your mood long after the moment has passed.
