Bake for Christmas

With the evenings drawing in and Christmas looming on the horizon, it’s the perfect occasion to get into the kitchen to enjoy some homemade family time.
It’s also the month to start making Christmas cakes to give the flavours time to mature.
Our bakers have popped together some of their tips to help you if you’re planning on making your own cake this year.
Stir-up Sunday
The traditional day to make a Christmas cake or pudding is Stir-up Sunday, which this year is on November 24.
Recipe books are a good place to start. There are many different types of Christmas cakes you could try. Looking through books and discussing ideas with your little one or grandchild is a great way to involve them as well. Once you start preparing and baking, remember to keep children away from sharp and hot items.
Bake to suit you
Remember, you don’t always have to follow the recipe to the letter, if there are ingredients you don’t like, swap them for something you would prefer, so the bake suits you better.
You could reduce the quantities to make something smaller and you don’t have to bake a traditional Christmas cake, there are lots of other options you could try instead but be sure you know how long they will keep, if baking in advance, or if they can be frozen
Baking also doesn’t have to be complicated and, although there are a lot of ingredients in a traditional Christmas cake, don’t be put off.
Occasionally, we all have a baking mishap and while it can be disappointing, don’t be disheartened.
Pre-order a cake from us
Dust yourself off and try again, and if all else fails, get one of our Bakery-made Christmas cakes. You can pre-order and purchase them from our counter team from now until mid-December, as we make them to order. However, please be aware we have a very limited number available.
Sharing, enjoying & eating
Finally, remember, once it gets to Christmas, one of the best bits is sharing, enjoying and eating what you make together with your family and friends. It’s the experience that counts!
