Why it’s good to eat soup this winter

We’re all trying not to switch on our central heating at the moment and one way of keeping warm, along with wearing woolly jumpers and snuggling under blankets, is to eat soup.
But why is soup so perfect at this time of year?
Cheap & easy
Well to start with it’s cheap and easy to prepare, as a fresh pot of soup, already made, can take as little as five minutes to heat up. If you have a microwave, it’s even cheaper to cook and faster.
A bowl of soup really does warm you up. For starters, the heat from the bowl or the cup your soup is in warms your hands. Psychologically, seeing steam rising makes us feel warmer too and, physically, soup heats us from our lips to our tummy.
Save money
For those short of money this winter, it also helps you feel full for longer due to its water content.
Plus, it’s a great way to increase your vitamins, nutrients and fibre intake, as fresh soup tends to be full of ingredients such as lentils and beans, as well as greens and vegetables.
Healthy & versatile
Soup makes it easier for us all to eat more vegetables too and that’s healthier for us as well.
There are so many different soups, so it’s unlikely you’ll get bored with eating them. There are Thai options, Italian minestrone ones, vegan broths, gluten free recipes and more, so there’s pretty much a soup to suit everyone’s tastes.
Friends & family
As a dish, soup is perfect for sharing and a great dish to enjoy with friends and family. It’s easy to make or prepare and to serve too, saving you time and allowing you to chat to your loved ones. Socialising like this is great for everyone’s wellbeing, especially during the darker months of the year when we may not be getting out as much as usual.
This season we’re creating soups for you to try nearly every week. Pop in soon to find out what we’re serving up next!
